NEW YORK, NY – Senior Sean Messina's pin at 133 pounds was the highlight tonight despite the fact that the Hunter College wrestling team suffered a 28-12 defeat against the visiting Delaware Valley Aggies on Senior Night at the Hunter Sportsplex on Friday evening.

The Hawks recognized four seniors in Ryan Baxter, Christopher Gross, Messina and Oliver Lopez prior to the start of tonight's match.

Despite a pair of early losses as Lopez found himself pinned by Delaware Valley's Charlie Frankel at 125 pounds and Ryan Gerondel fell to Erin McCann (12-6) at 133 pounds, Messina got the Hawks on the scoreboard. Messina pinned James DeLillo in 6:15, to make it a 9-6 affair in favor of the Aggies.

Delaware Valley registed a pair of wins to extend its lead shortly thereafter however, as Zak Andrews recorded a major decision victory at 149 pounds, defeating Chris Gogatz, 14-3 before Emmanuel Ajagbe earned a comefrom behind 8-4 decision over Matt Cartusciello to make it a 16-6 affair.

At 165 pounds, Jesse Bader led throughout the third period against Donald Smith but the Aggie scored a late takedown to capture the 7-5 decision as Hunter fell behind, 19-6.

Luke Pragdat got the Hawks back on the board with an impressive win at 174 pounds as he defeated Alec Horan in a 2-1 decision, as the Hawks closed the gap, 19-9.

The 184 division came down to the wire as Alan Djokic and Kyle Tufts were tied with time winding down in the third period however Tufts came up with a late takedown to capture the 5-2 victory.

Musa DeReese won by major decision, defeating Chris James, 8-2 to make it 22-12 in favor of Delaware Valley.

A forfeit victory for Mike Boardman at 285 pounds gave the Aggies tonight's 28-12 victory in tonight's match.

The Hawks are absent from competition until Sunday, February 26 when they head to Elizabethtown, PA to compete in the Metro Championships.
