BRONX, NY - The Hunter College men's basketball team saw a late second half lead evaporate and a late turnover proved costly as Lehman College stole a 61-60 victory over the Hawks at Mt. St. Michael's Academy on Sunday afternoon.
Hunter drops to 11-11 on the season and 6-4 in the CUNYAC action while Lehman improves to 11-12 and 7-4 in the conference.
After closing the first stanza tied at 24-all, the Hawks built a marginal seven-point lead which Lehman would steadily erase. Despite allowing the Lightning back into the contest, Hunter moved in front by by six as senior
Anthony Uter converted a free throw at 3:50 to make it 56-50 in favor of the Hawks. Lehman refused to go quietly however, limiting Hunter to just one point as it scored eight to move ahead by one, 58-57 with 52 seconds left to play.

Mark Wnukowski came up clutch for the Hawks, converting a three-point play with 26 seconds to go to put the Hawks up by two, 60-58. But then, a costly foul then sent Quaseem Weems to the line, and despite missing his first attempt at the line, he converted the second to bring the Lightning back within one, 60-59 with just 19 seconds left in the game. A Hawk turnover on the ensuing inbounds play resulted in a turnover and an easy Lehman layup as the Lightning defeated the Hawks 61-60 as time expired.
Uter notched a double-double in the loss, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Hunter.
Mark Courtien added 11 points and Wnukowski tallied a season-high 10 points to help the Hawks offensively.
Hunter returns to CUNYAC action this Wednesday, February 8 as it travels to CCNY to take on the Beavers at 7pm.
