#12 Hunter Remains Perfect at Endicott Tournament

BEVERLY, MA - The Hunter College men's volleyball team concluded play at the Endicott Tournament by going 4-0, winning every match in straight sets. After defeating #10 Rivier College, 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-16) and handling Hilbert College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) on Saturday; the Hawks finished up on Sunday with a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-21, 25-12) over SUNYIT and then topped Southern Vermont College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) to win its 16th straight match.

Hunter (20-7) saw impressive work from senior outside hitter Christopher Newcomb all weekend as he led the squad with an impressive 62 kills en route to garnering a postion on the All-Tournament Team. Newcomb ended with 15 kills against SUNYIT and 16 against Southern Vermont to pace the Hawks. In the 3-0 win over SUNYIT, Stanley Martinez led with 20 assists while Eric Lodde managed six digs. Braien Otsla contributed with a pair of service aces while John Gemegah led with four blocks.

Against Southern Vermont, Newcomb finished with 16 kills while Lodde tallied eight digs. Jonathan Park finished with the lone service ace while Gemegah again added four blocks to the winning effort. Martinez concluded the match with 26 assists to help Hunter to victory.

Newcomb who finished with 13 kills and 13 blocks in a win over Hilbert. Lodde chipped in with nine digs and Martinez had 26 assists. 

Newcomb led the Hawks in game two against Rivier as he amassed 15 kills while Martinez registered 30 assists and four blocks.

Hunter wraps up the regular season this week with matches against John Jay College on Tuesday, March 27 at 6pm before facing Steven's Tech on Saturday, March 31st at 9am.
