NEW YORK, NY– The Hunter College men's volleyball team closed out the CUNYAC season with a perfect 14-0 record to capture the overall #1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC/Con Edison Conference Championships as it defeated John Jay College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-7) on Tuesday evening at the Sportsplex.
Hunter improved to 21-7 to go along with its perfect 14-0 mark in the conference while John Jay fell to 3-13 and 2-10 in the league with its loss.
Reining CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Week Christopher Newcomb led all players with 12 kills on .733 attacking, adding a pair of service aces and one block assist to his line. John Gemegah added seven kills on .417 attacking while registering three solo blocks and one block assist in the Hawks' victory. Nino Hot and Eric Barty each added four kills apiece hitting .500.
As a squad the Hawks finished with 35 kills on .397 attacking, limiting the Bloodhounds to just seven kills on -.261 attacking.
Hunter returns to action this Saturday, March 31—Senior Day with a 9am game versus SUNYIT.
