NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College men's volleyball team ran its win streak to seven matches today as it handed the CCNY Beavers a 3-0 defeat (25-9, 25-17, 25-16) at the Hunter Sportsplex on Thursday evening.
Hunter improves to 11-7 overall and 8-0 in the CUNYAC while CCNY falls to 3-14 and 2-7 in league play with its loss tonight.
Christopher Newcomb led the charge, tallying 15 kills on .737 attacking in addition to scoring a pair of service aces.
John Gemegah added 10 more kills on .818 attacking in addition to four blocks and
Braien Otsla registered eight on a perfect 1.000 attack percentage and a solo block. As a squad, the Hawks finished with 49 kills on an impressive .629 attacking percentage.
The Hawks took the first set 25-9 as they collaborated for 14 kills on .600 attacking while limiting the Beavers to just six kills. Hunter won the second set, 25-17. Despite CCNY's resilience, Hunter pushed ahead thanks to 17 kills. The third and final set ended 25-16 in Hunter's favor. The Hawks notched 17 more kills this time on .636 attacking as they committed just three errors to win the match in three-straight sets.
Derrell Williams led the Beavers with eight kills and Nick Siriban registered five kills in tonight's loss. The Beavers were limited to just 22 kills on -.021 attacking. Additionally, CCNY committed 17 ball handling errors in comparison to just three by Hunter.
Hunter returns to action next Tuesday, March 13 when it travels to Medgar Evers for a 7pm match-up.
