MASPETH, NY- On Wednesday, September 19th, the men's soccer team travelled to the Met Oval to compete in their first conference game of the season against the Bearcats of Baruch. After battling through regulation time and double overtime, neither side could capitalize on scoring opportunities, resulting in a tie at 1-1. With the tie, the Hawks record stands at 0-6-1 while the Bearcats move to 1-4-2.
Baruch's freshman Oren Kozlowski scored the first goal of the game at the 37th minute on a free kick, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks fought valiantly, and in the 70th minute of the game their work paid off when freshman
Abdullah Mayan kicked a ball through from midfield to junior captain
Diego Mercado, who gave the Hawks their only goal, tying the score up at 1-1.
After playing two overtime periods the gamed ended in a 1-1 draw.
Hunter finished the day with 14 shots, while Baruch had 18. Senior Ioannis Theotokas, freshman
Jack Andrade, and Mercado lead the Hawks with 3 shots a piece while senior keeper
Zade Haobsh had 5 saves.
The Hawks are back on the field on Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Lehman College to play the Lightening in a conference game. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
