New Paltz, NY - The #14 ranked men's volleyball team opened up their 2013 campaign yesterday agaisnt the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz in a non-conference match. New Paltz was able to blank the young Hawks, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) handing Hunter their first loss of the season. Hunter now falls to 0-1 while New Paltz improves to 1-0.
New Paltz overwhelmed Hunter with a prolfific attack, as the NP Hawks hit a .517 for the match along with eight services aces.
Hunter kept it close early on, and even held a three-point lead at one point in the first set. After leading 11-9 in the first, Hunter relinquished their lead and were never able to recapture it.
Newcomers Matthew Ng and Moshood Jinad tied for the team-high in kills with six apiece, and
Stanley Martinez handed out a match-high 17 assists.
Eric Lodde corralled a match-high four digs, while Martinez had a block solo.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, January 29th when they host NYU. Before the match at 6:45pm, the 2012 men's volleyball team will be celebrated for being NCAA Semi-Finalists in the spring.
