Men's Basketball Falls on Senior Day

Hawks couldn't stave off the strong Dolphins

BOX SCORE

Staten Island, N.Y. – The men's basketball team dropped their final regular season game to the Dolphins last night, 78-65.  The game, which was supposed to be played home at the Hunter Sportsplex, was moved to CSI due to a maintenance issue. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 8-17, 5-11 while the Dolphins lift to 19-5, 14-2 CUNYAC.

With the win, the Dolphins clinched the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship, defending their title from last year.

Before the game started, three seniors on the Hawks team were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the program. Pemba Sherpa, Peter Koutsoloukas and Lorenzo Brown were all honored by their coaches and teammates.

The Hawks were led by Lester Anim who scored a team-high of 18 points, followed by Brown who netted eight. Koutsoloukas chipped in with eight points and four boards while Robert Borusiewicz scored 10 points with five rebounds. Bloochy Magloire from CSI led all scorers with 31 points, with teammate John Chadwick-Myers scored 16.

The Dolphins controlled the game early, as they went on a 10-0 run starting at 15:31 which didn't end until a good jumper by Robert Borusiewicz, cutting the lead to 21-8. CSI continued pull away, increasing the gap at half time going up 37-20.

The Dolphins continued to be impressive in the second stanza, countering every Hunter basket with field goals of their own. The Hawks needed a run, and although it took some time they did get one.

Down by 15 after yet another Bloochy Magloire three, the Hawks went on an 11-4 run, which featured six points from Lester Amin, including a three-point play that kicked it off. Hunter had narrowed CSI's lead down to eight, 58-50, with just 8:01 to play. Magloire, however, almost single-handedly put an end to the Hawks chances, knocking down two open three's. A few moments later, Magloire found Chadwick-Myers for an open-look three and the junior knocked it down to give CSI back its 15-point lead with just 5:17 to go.

Hunter would close the game on a 9-5, run over the final 3:51, but it was wasn't enough, as CSI played comfortable down the stretch.

The Hawks are back in action this Sunday, February 17th when they face the No.1 seed for the third time this season, CSI at Staten Island in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC/Con Edison Championship. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm.
