New York, N.Y. - This past weekend the Hawks competed in their final regular season matches of the year. The capstone event, which was also senior night, was held at Hunter College. The Hawks hosted the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales, and the Ducks of Stevens Tech.
The Hawks dropped their first match against JWU, a tricky team with the highest percentage of dual meet pins and currently ranked as the number 27 team in the nation. The Hawks started the dual with good momentum with the first match when 125-pound freshman
Jaydon Rice defeated his opponent by a major decision 21-8.
133-pound sophomore
Kenneth Albert then lost a difficult bout to Justin Colon but the Hawks were winning once again after 141-pound senior Christian Gogatz defeated his opponent 8-3. The Hawks then got their final victory with heavyweight senior
Leon Bodden in a technical fall 17-0. The final score of the dual was 12-30.
The Hawks were then able to rally and get a victory against Stevens Tech. Once again
Jaydon Rice (125lbs) started the dual right with a decision over Anthony Geiger, 8-7.
Chris Gogatz (141lbs) also won his match with a decision, 11-5.
Sophomore
Jesse Bader (157lbs) also won his match, 6-3. After dropping the next two matches, the Hawks then finished the dual with three straight victories. 184-pound
Dennis Melendez won his match,7-3; 197-pound
Alan Djokic won his match 6-5; Hwt
Leon Bodden won his match with a fall in 6:28. The final score was 21-14.
The next match for the Hawks will be the NCAA qualifying event on March 2nd, hosted by Gettysburg College.
