Hawks Spilt at Springfield Tournament

Springfield, M.A. – The men's volleyball competed in the Springfield College Tournament this past weekend. The Hawks defeated the Mustangs of Mouth Ida 3-1, while dropping a 3-0 decision to the #2 ranked host team Springfield. After the day, the Hawks improved their overall record to 6-9.

The Hawks saw a slow first set in the opening round against the Mustangs, dropping a 19-25 decision. After regrouping, the Hawks took the next three sets with relative ease to give them the win. Braien Otsla led the Hawks with 12 kills, three digs, and two blocks. Moshood Jinad added eight kills and four blocks in the victory while Stanley Martinez had six kills and 27 assists.

After dropping the first set 10-25 to Springfield Pride, the Hawks rallied back in the second set. The back and forth affair saw Hunter have at least a three point lead on more than two occasions. But key blocks by the Pride and errors on the Hawks end Springfield was able to take the set 25-19. The third set deemed to fair no better for Hunter, as it ended in the same 25-19 result as the second set.

Nino Hot led the Hawks with 10 kills, while Matthew Ng had nine kills and three digs. Martinez tallied 28 assists while Otsla recorded seven kills.

The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, March 19th when they travel uptown to compete against the Beavers of CCNY.
