Hawks Fall Short In CUNYAC Semifinals to the Cardinals of York College, 3-2

New York, NY - The men's volleyball team came up short in the CUNYAC semifinals round against York (NY), losing 3-2 (21-25, 31-33, 25-23, 25-5, 9-15) on Friday, April 12th. Senior Braien Otsla led Hunter with 28 kills and 13 defensive digs.
 
Hunter got off to a slow start dropping the first two sets 21-25 and 31-33. The Hawks combined for 19 errors while York exploded for 28 kills taking an early 2-0 advantage. In the third set, Hunter was able to pull away with a close 25-23 victory behind Braien Otlsa's eight kills and Stanley Martinez's 15 assists in that set.
 
Stanley Martinez recorded 10 more assists in the next set as Hunter tied the match at 2-2 by crushing York 25-5. The Hawks had 12 kills in the fourth set while the Cardinals had seven errors. But in the fifth and final set, the Hawks had eight errors with only four kills as the Cardinals upset the #2 seeded Hunter Hawks 15-9.
 
Offensively, Braien Otsla carried Hunter with 28 kills while Nino Holt had 10. Defensively, Hunter had 47 digs compared to 38 by York. Two Hawks hit double-figures led by Braien Otsla's 13 and Eric Lodde's 10 digs. Hunter's Moshood Jinad had six total blocks while Alexandru Marbulescu added five.
 
Despite 62 team kills by Hunter, 34 total errors curtailed their CUNYAC Championship run. Hunter drops to 14-14 overall while York advances to the CUNYAC Championship finals.
