Wrestling Competes at North/South Duals

RESULTS

Ursinus, P.A. - The wrestling team traveled to Ursinus College to compete in the North/South Duals on Saturday, January 11th. The Hawks went 2-2 for the day, beating out Trinity (27-21) and West Chester (36-12). After the day, the Hawks dual record is now 2-5.

The Hawks fell to nationally ranked host school #21 Ursinus, 31-9.  Stephen Drew (133) won by an 8-2 decision over Danny Ventura, while Patryk Kopczynski (285) pinned Karch Connors at 2:53 to grab Hunter's only two wins against the Bears.

In the Hawks match against Rhode Island, Drew once again proved his worth by defeating Jon Costa by a 4-3 decision. R.J. Pacquette (174) had a 2-1 decision over Joe Mahoney while Kopczynski won by forfeit.

During the Hawks victory over Trinity, Paquette pinned Mike Ragazzi at 3:36 while Dennis Melendez (184) had a 4-0 decision over Joseph Gerish.

Drew had a spectacular day, going undefeated with a record of 4-0. Melendez,  Pacquette and Kopczynski all went 3-1 for the day.

"Drew was the high performer of the day. He is improving every day and is currently on a six match win streak. Paquette, Melendez, and Kopczynski each fared well with three wins on the day. They anchored the upper weights on a day that we needed them to come through. It was fun to win our first duals of the season, but our young team still needs a lot of work before the Region tournament," says head coach Chris Mazzatta.

The Hawks are back on the mats on January 18th when they travel to Delaware Valley College to compete in the Tri-Match.
