New York, N.Y – The Hawks hosted the 2014 quad match this past weekend, with John Hopkins, NYU, Washington & Lee, and Hunter participating. The Hawks walked away with a 1-1 record for the day, defeating Washington & Lee 33-9, but falling to the John Hopkins Blue Jays 18-31. After the day, the Hawks dual record is at 4-7.
Against Washington and Lee,
Declan Gray (157) defeated Alex Niemann by a 5-1 decision, while
Dennis Melendez (184) defeated Ron Tassoni by an 11-8 decision. Patryk Kopcznski (285) defeated Grant Cokeley 7-2.
During the match against John Hopkins,
Jaydon Rice and Kopcznski pinned their opponents, while Gray and Melendez won by decision.
"I am very happy with their performance today. It may have been our best overall performance so far this season. Patryk wrestled very well as he picked up a pin and dominating win. Patryk has a very high ceiling and the intangible qualities needed to make a deep run into the postseason. Declan is young, but continues to improve each match. Jaydon bounced back from last week's loss with a pin today. Dennis also continues to win matches. His work ethic and athleticism can bring him a long way this season. Overall, the coaching staff is very proud of how the young team is coming together," says head coach
Chris Mazzatta.
The Hawks are back in action on February 1
st when they compete in New England/Metro Challenge.
