BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter men's basketball team lost 73-67 to Baruch College in the final event of the 2014 Hunter Athletics Homecoming Event. The Hawks fall to 3-5 on the season and sit 0-2 in CUNYAC play.
The game started out back-and-forth as neither team was able to get into any offensive rhythm. With 5:40 left in the first half, the Bearcats took went ahead by six points but the Hawks came responded by tying up the game with just over three minutes to go. The Hawks played relentless defense in the first half holding Baruch to 25% from the field but the Bearcats still went into the half with a 33-30 lead, thanks to making 15-of-16 from the free throw line.
The Hawks immediately cut into the Baruch lead in first few minutes of the second half thanks to a jumper by
Matia Divac and three free throws by
Daniel Sokolovsky. The Hawks and Bearcats traded baskets the first 10 minutes of the second half, with neither team taking a lead larger than four points. With 7:58 to go in the game the Bearcats took a 59-50 lead after a tip-in by Chimaechi Ekekeugbor. The Hawks responded thanks to
Brian Kruger and
Lester Anim. Kruger scored five points and Anim scored three points in the next two minutes to cut the lead to 59-58.
Down the stretch, Baruch would take a five point lead by once again Kruger and Anim would push their team back to within one but a three pointer by Bryler Paige with 1:09 to-go would give Baruch a four point lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the game. Kruger led the Hawks with 15 points and six rebounds, while Anim would score 14 points.
The Hawks return to action Monday December 8 when they travel to take on Rutgers-Newark. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
