NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Hawks wrestling team started Homecoming 2014 off with a 28-23 victory against Centenary College. The Hawks now are 4-1 on the season.
The Hawks started off with two victories in the 125lb & 133lb class by forfeit. The first match was in the 141lb class and
Cary Palmer won with a 19-4 major decision victory over Collin Farley. Palmer dominated the match leading 6-1 at the end of the first period and really taking control in the second period leading 14-2.
The Cyclones responded winning the next two matches by pin fall. In the 149lb match, Adam Swift pinned
Barry Hart at 5:48 and in the 157lb match Joe Bartolini pinned
Nick Wilkie at 2:49.

Jesse Bader got the Hawks back on track with a 7-3 victory in the 165lb match over Anthony Kubish. Bader took control in the 3
rd period with a great two point takedown to increase his lead to 7-3.
DJ Wagner won by pin in the 174lb match over
Maksimilian Garkusha. The Cyclones would win by forfeit in the 184lb match.
Dennis Melendez won the 197lb match to 14-5. Melendez was in control throughout the match leading 7-3 at the end of the first period and 9-4 at the end of the second period. He secured the match in the third with a great takedown early in the period.
The Hawks led 24-23 going into the 285lb match between
Patryk Kopczynski and Josh Caven; Kopczynski took control in the third period where a three point near fall increased his lead from 4-1 to 7-1. He went on to win the match 10-1 giving the Hawks a 28-23 victory.
The Hawks get back to the mat Saturday afternoon when they travel to NYU to take on New York University and LIU-Post. The match starts at 9am.
