BOX SCORE 2 HUNTINGDON, PA – The Hunter men's volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2015 Eagle Invitational by going 1-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks lost to hosts Juniata in a five set thriller then swept Hilbert College 3-0. The Hawks improve their record to 2-4.
Juniata College 3 Hunter College 2 The Hawks opened up slowly, falling behind 2-0 after 25-18 and 25-14 defeats, but the Hawks would respond rattling off a 25-21 victory in the third set.
The Hawks led the third set from the start. However, with the score tied 20-20, the Hawks scored five of the final six points to take the set 25-21.
Ben Crusinberry's two kills propelled the Hawks attack down the stretch.
In the fourth set both teams battled with neither team taking larger than a 3-point lead. After a
Brandon Kohler kill to give the Hawks an 18-17 lead, the Hawks attack would register six points via a kill en route to a 25-22 victory.
In the fifth set, the Hawks fell behind early, trailing 7-2 early and would drop the set 15-5.
Crusinberry led the Hawks attack with 12 kills and five blocks, Kohler chipped in with 10 kills.
Steven Tarquinio had nine kills and five blocks. Setter Gary Anderson Jr, continued his strong start totaling 40 assists.
Hunter College 3 Hilbert College 0 The Hawks controlled the first set right from the start as the Hawks attack was once again strong. They took control with a four point run to take a 20-14 lead. Tarquinio, Crusinberry and Kohler all registered kills closing out the set with a 25-18 victory.
The second set saw both teams trade leads early in the set but after a three point run to make the score 20-16 Hunter, the Hawks took advantage of attacking errors to win 25-19.
The Hawks dominated the third set jumping out 21-8 lead fueled by a team effort with six players recording a kill in the Hawks 25-14 victory.
Tarquinio led the Hawks with 13 kills and eight combined blocks, his performance over the weekend earned him a spot on the Eagle Invitational All-Tournament Team. Crusinberry had nine kills while Kohler had eight. Anderson had another game with over 30 assists, totaling 38.
The Hawks return to action January 29 when they will take on Cairn University, game time is scheduled for 7pm.
