NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Hawks wrestling team took on the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons in a dual on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks suffered a 28-14 loss, dropping their record to 10-7 overall.
Prior to the match, four Hawk seniors were honored with a framed picture.
Kenny Albert,
Jesse Bader,
Monil Shah and
Nick Wilkie were presented with a picture by Coach Mazzatta.
The match started with
Kenny Albert winning 15-8 decision that he secured late in third period with a key two-point take down.
The Red Dragons would take a victory at 133lbs, evening the match score 3-3.
#3 ranked
Cary Palmer dominated at 141lbs with a 10-1 decision.
The Hawks dropped the next two decisions at 149lbs and 157lbs.
Senior and #8 ranked
Jesse Bader was in the match of the day, a triple overtime thriller that he won. The score was tied 7-7at the end of the overtime but because
Bader secured the first takedown he was awarded the victory.
The Hawks would lose at 174lbs via major decision and then forfeit at 184lbs.
In the 197lbs matchup the Red Dragons would win via pin at 1:43.
Patryk Kopczynski would close out the match with a 9-0 major decision.
The Hawks would like to thank all the family, friends and alumni that came out to today's match, despite the inclement weather.
The team returns to the mat Saturday January 31 when they will take on Bridgewater State, Roger Williams and Williams College at the Metro/New England Challenge.
