Kings Point, NY - The Hunter wrestling team competed against the United States Merchant Marine Academy and LIU-Post held by USMMA on Saturday. The Hawks took three against both USMMA and LIU-Post but ultimately fell by scores of 39-14 and 40-11 respectively.

Dennis Melendez was one of two Hawks to win both of his matches. Wrestling at the 197 weight class, Melendez defeated USMMA's Daniel Viera by a 16-1 tech fall at 5:15 and then prevailed against LIU-Post's Jake Horton by a final score of 8-2. Meanwhile, teammate Declan Gray won a 9-7 decision over the Mariner's Matt Hiltz and then took down the Pioneer's James Sinclair, 17-1 in the 165 weight class.

At 157, William Heine defeated Corey Ashe of LIU-Post 10-3 while Jaydon Rice won by a fall at 4:56 against USMMA's wrestler at the 133 weight class.

The Hawks resume action on January 3 when they compete in a quad match at Stevens Tech beginning at 10am.
