BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY -,The Hunter men's volleyball team won their 3rd consecutive match on Wednesday night sweeping CUNYAC foe CCNY. The win put the Hawks at 6-5 overall and 3-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks swept the three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-17.
In the first set started out close with both teams trading points. The Hawks took control with a run expanding their lead from 9-7 to 17-10, taking advantage of sloppy ball handling by the Beavers and a strong Hawks attack. The Hawks closed out the first set scoring the final three points, two of which via kills to win 25-15.
The Hawks and Beavers battled in the second set playing a very even set. The Hawks had the lead early on leading 10-5 but the Beavers would not go away taking advantage of sloppy Hawk play to take a 12-11 lead. The Hawks would respond with back to back kills by
Benjamin Cassidy and
Brandon Kohler to take the lead back. The Hawks would score the next four points to take an 18-13 lead. The Beavers would pull within two points at 19-17 but the Hawks attack led by Kohler and
Mehmet Ozturk would close out the set.
In the final set the Hawks controlled play right from the beginning of the set jumping out to a 21-9 lead. The Hawks were placing their serves well leading to errors by the Beavers, plus adding in strong attack play.
Ozturk led the Hawks attack totaling a game-high 10 kills, while hitting a robust .600. Cassidy and Kohler each had five kills while hitting .571 and .500 respectively.
The Hawks return to action at this Saturday's Springfield College Tri-Match where the Hawks take on #5 Springfield College and Wentworth Institute of Technology.,
