BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 SPRINGFIELD, MA -, The Hunter men's volleyball team lost both matches at the Springfield College Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks were swept by #5 Springfield College, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 and by Wentworth Institute of Technology 25-21, 25-13, 25-22.

The two losses drop the Hawks to 6-7 overall.

The Hawks fell behind early against the Pride the first set but battled back to tie the set 8-8 thanks to two kills by Mehmet Ozturk. The Pride would score seven of the next 10 points to take control of the set. The Hawks attack was in good form as they totaled 11 kills for the set but the Pride out did the Hawks totaling 14 kills of their own.

In the second set the Hawks opened up an early 4-1 lead but as the set progressed it remained close. With the score tied at 12, the Pride went on a run to take control of the set using a strong attack to secure a 25-18 set victory.

In the third set the pride took control early jumping out to an 8-3 lead forcing a Hawk timeout. After the timeout the Pride continued to dominate play at the net winning point after point with kills. In the final set they scored 18 points from kills.

Steven Tarquinio led the Hawks with eight kills and two combined blocks, Ozturk chipped in with six kills.

The first set was back and forth with the teams trading points. With the set tied 10-10, the Leopards began to take control with strong play at the net. The Hawks continued to battle getting as close as 23-20 but that would be as close as they would get as the Leopards would win the set 25-21.

The Leopards dominated the second set from the start as they jumped out to a 16-6 lead. The Hawks couldn't solve the Leopards strong play as they totaled 13 or more kills in all three sets.

In the final set, the Hawks fought hard staying with the Leopards even taking two different four point leads. But with the score 19-15 Hawks, the Leopards would go on a 5-0 to tie the game at 19, the Hawks responded taking a 21-19 lead on back-to-back Leopard errors. The Leopards would close out the set scoring the final five points to take a 25-22 victory.

Brandon Kohler led the Hawks with 10 kills, while Tarquinio added seven kills. Gary Anderson Jr had 24 assists, six digs and two kills.

The Hawks return to action Monday February 16 when they will host a CUNYAC multi-match. They will face #9 Baruch College at 9am and Lehman College at 11am.
