BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter men's volleyball won their fourth match in a row on Thursday night over CUNYAC foe John Jay College. The Hawks improve to 10-7 overall and 7-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks dominated the first set right from the start jumping out to an early 10-3 lead forcing a Bloodhound timeout. After the timeout ended the Hawks continued their strong play at the net blocking back-to-back Bloodhound attacks
Brandon Kohler would be key in closing out the set as the sophomore smashed two kills to secure the 25-14 set victory.
In the second set, the Hawks once again came out strong and dominated play taking a 10-5 lead. During the opening run Kohler,
Ben Crusinberry,
Steven Tarquinio and
Benjamin Cassidy all recorded kills for the Hawks. The Bloodhounds would call a timeout with the score 14-6 and from that point forward, the Hawks would score 11 of the next 14 points to close out the set 25-9.
To start the third set the Hawks once again seized control, taking a 7-2 lead to force an early John Jay timeout. The Hawks attack put pressure on the Bloodhounds forcing them into four consecutive attack errors. The Bloodhounds would respond and tie the set up at 10 and would stay within three points until the Hawks began to pull away. With the score 19-17 Hawks,
Mehmet Ozturk would smash a kill and Jon Peter Sardea would hit two straight aces to make to the score 23-17. The Hawks would close the set out on a kill by
Daniel Dobrogowski securing the sweep of the Bloodhounds.
Kohler led the Hawks with nine kills, while hitting .600%. Tarquinio and Crusinberry each had four kills for the Hawks and CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Gary Anderson Jr, led the team with 15 assists.
The Hawks return to action Wednesday March 4 when they will host Medgar Evers College at 5:30pm and Vassar College at 7pm.,
NOTES:Prior to the start of the match the Hunter Athletic department honored 94 Student-Athletes who achieved a 3.2 GPA or higher during the Fall 2014 semester.
