BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter men's volleyball team took on #11 NYU on Tuesday night in the team's 2015 home opener. The Hawks were swept by the Violets 3-0, falling 26-24, 25-9 and 25-20. The Hawks fall to 3-5 on the season.
The Hawks came out strong in the first set hanging with the nationally ranked Violets. The Hawks stayed with NYU the entire set and evened up the score 24-24 after a
Benjamin Cassidy kill. The Violets would close out the set by scoring the next two points.
The second set was dominated by NYU as the jumped out to a 10-2 lead forcing a Hunter timeout. The Hawks were unable to get their attack going as NYU continued to apply the pressure leading to a 25-9 victory.
The third set started out as a back and forth match. NYU took a 10-6 lead and were looking to go on a run to close out the Hawks but three straight Hawk points pulled the score to 10-9. NYU led 18-11 and were closing in on victory but the Hawks got their attack together pulling the score to 22-20. NYU would close out the set scoring the next three points.
CUNYAC Player of the Week
Brandon Kohler led the Hawks attack with five kills and three combined blocks. Cassidy chipped in with four kills and four combined blocks while
Steven Tarquinio had three kills and six combined blocks.
The Hawks return to action Saturday February 7 when they will take on CUNYAC opponents Medgar Evers and John Jay.
