BOX SCORE BRONX, NY - The Hunter men's volleyball team defeated Lehman College in straight sets on Thursday night, winning by the scores 25-14, 25-14 and 25-22. The Hawks improve to 15-8 overall and 10-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the first set winning the first seven points to force a Lightning timeout. The Lightning would close the gap to 10-7, but the Hawks would respond by scoring eight straight points to regain control of the set. The Hawks attack was strong during the run as they got kills from
Brandon Kohler and Gary Anderson Jr to close out the first set victory.
In the second set the Hawks dominated from the start once again as the Hawks attack was strong on the offensive and defensive ends.
Ben Crusinberry and
Benjamin Cassidy would lead the Hawks to a lead of 16-6 to force a Lehman timeout. After the timeout, Crusinberry would take over recording three more kills leading to a second set victory.
The third set started with the Hawks taking control early jumping out to a 12-5 lead. The se would tighten up and turn into a battle as the Lightning cut the Hawks lead to 17-14. Kohler and Crusinberry would lead the Hawks attack in closing out the set as they would each record multiple kills to put away the Lightning.
Crusinberry led the way recording a game-high 10 kills and two total blocks. Kohler and
Matthew Zukowski each had five kills. Anderson Jr had a solid overall game with 22 assists and 10 digs.
The Hawks return to action Saturday when they will host a Tri-match at the Sportsplex. They will take on #1 Stevens Tech at 9am and then face-off against Stevenson University at 1pm.
