Hawks Take Match Against Staten Island

Move To 11-0 In CUNYAC

BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter men's volleyball team continued their unbeaten CUNYAC streak to 11 games with a straight set victory over the Staten Island Dolphins on Thursday evening. The Hawks improve to 16-10 overall and 11-0 in CUNYAC with set wins by the score of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-10.

The Hawks controlled play right from the start of the first set jumping out to an early 9-4 lead thanks to the strong attacking play of Steven Tarquinio, Ben Crusinberry and Matthew Zukowski. After a mini run by the Dolphins cut the lead to 10-6, the Hawks and Dolphins would trade points during the middle of the set. The Hawks took control of the set on a kill by Benjamin Cassidy to make the score 18-12, the Hawks would score seven of the next nine points to secure the set victory.

In the second set, the Hawks and Dolphins would be tied at 5 but that is when the Hawks attack would take over. Brandon Kohler and Crusinberry would lead the attack each scoring two kills each during a run that would give the Hawks a 13-8 lead. The Dolphins would cut the lead to 15-11 but kills on the next four Hawk serves combined with an ace would give the Hawks the control at 20-13 and they would close out the set thanks to kills from Daniel Dobrogowski.

The Hawks dominated the third set jumping out to a 12-5 lead thanks to kills from Tarquinio and Kohler. The closest the set would be was when the Dolphins cut the lead to 15-8 but the Hawks would close out the set and the match on a 10-2 run to secure the straight set victory.

Tarquinio led the Hawks with 10 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, Kohler would record nine kills and an outstanding .750 hitting percentage. As a team the Hawks combined to hit .451 with 40 kills. CUNYAC & ECAC Rookie of the Week Gary Anderson Jr continued his strong play this season recording 33 assists. 

The Hawks return to action with their regular season home finale on Tuesday March 24 against Brooklyn College at 6pm.
