BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter men's volleyball team had their 14 game CUNYAC winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as the #10 Baruch Bearcats defeated the Hawks in straight sets. The Hawks end their regular season campaign with a 19-12 record overall and 15-1 record in CUNYAC play.
The Bearcats took control of the first set early on taking a 15-6 lead on back-to-back kills. The Hawks would respond scoring three straight points including two coming from kills by Gary Anderson Jr and
Steven Tarquinio to cut the Bearcats lead to 15-9. The Hawks would get to within five at 23-18 after back-to-back kills by
Mehmet Ozturk and
Ben Crusinberry.
The Bearcats controlled the second set right from the start taking a 22-11 lead before the Hawks would cut into the lead falling 2517.
The third set was close throughout as both teams went back and forth, trading points. The Hawks would tie the score at 9-9 after Tarquinio smashed two kills leading the Hawks attack. Three kills by Crusinberry,
Brandon Kohler and
Matthew Zukowski gave the Hawks a 15-13 lead. The Bearcats rattled off four straight points to take a 17-15 lead forcing a Hawks timeout. After the timeout the Hawks responded to re-take the lead 18-17 but that would be the last lead they would have as the Bearcats closed out the set winning 25-22.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday April 7 when they begin their quest to a CUNYAC Championship when they will host a Quarterfinal round matchup.
