BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter men's volleyball team lost in four sets to Baruch College in the CUNYAC Finals on Friday night. The Hawks end the season 21-13 and will wait to see if they earn a bid to the ECAC Tournament.
The Hawks dropped the first two sets, 25-15 to the Bearcats but they were able to bounce back in the third set, winning 25-14.
In the third set, the Hawks took control of the set early on jumping out to an early 7-3 lead. The Bearcats would cut the lead down to three points but back-to-back kills by
Steven Tarquinio gave the Hawks a 15-10 lead forcing a Bearcats timeout.
When play resumed, the Hawks took advantage of Bearcat errors and closed out the set scoring eight of the last 10 points to win 25-14.
In the fourth set, the Hawks continued their strong play early on jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The Bearcats would sieze control of the set turning a 13-12 deficit into a 21-14 lead. They would close out the Hawks on a kill by Chris Kamis to clinch the championship 25-21.
The Hawks were led by Tarquinio who totaled a team-high nine kills.
Brandon Kohler chipped in with eight kills, while
Mehmet Ozturk had seven kills. Setter Gary Anderson Jr had 29 assists.
Tarquinio and
Benjamin Cassidy were named to the CUNYAC All-Tournament team.
The Hawks will wait to see if their play has earned a bid to the ECAC Tournament.
