BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College men's basketball came up short against Mount Saint Mary College on Friday afternoon, falling to the Knights in the last ten minutes of the game with a score of 67-59.
The Purple and Gold fall to 5-6 overall and remain 3-1 in conference play.
The first half was competitive with the Knights taking an early lead, but Hunter pulling ahead five minutes later off a three-point play from
Danny Fusco. From there both teams struggled to score, as the score remained 9-9 for three minutes until Hunter's
Matt Franks converted on two free throws.Â
The Hawks remained in control, leading by as much as six at the 6:55 minute mark, but the Knights slowly made their move, pulling ahead by four points at the half.
Fusco and Franks led the team with nine and eight points, respectively at halftime as the Hawks recorded a 36.0 field goal percentage.
Trailing by seven points in the second half, back-to-back three-pointers from Fusco and
Mamadou Sakho gave Hunter the lead with 15 minutes to play. Mount Saint Mary went on a run to pull ahead and remained solid for the remaining ten minutes, never allowing Hunter within less than five points of them to get the 67-59 victory.
Fusco led the team with a career-high 18 points, shooting 3-3 from behind the arc. Franks followed with 12 points and eight rebounds and
Amer Lukac chipped in a team-high ten boards.
The Hawks finished the game with a 37.0 field goal percentage, out-rebounding the Knights 38 to 32.
The squad returns to action on January 4 when they host Wheelock College at 6 p.m.
