BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College men's basketball came back from a 23-point deficit in the second half, but eventually fell to City College of New York with a score of 74-65.
The Hawks are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference after dropping their first CUNYAC game.
Turnovers plagued the Hawks in the first half, recording 11 as CCNY jumped out to a 43-26 lead at halftime off a 54.5 shooting performance.
The second half was a different story for the Purple and Gold with
Amer Lukac starting it off with a layup just 30 seconds into the half. He followed that up with four-straight free throws to give Hunter momentum as they cut the Beaver's lead to just 13 in the first three minutes.
At the 17:13 minute mark a basket from
Gio Gabbidon sparked a 10-2 run for the Hawks, featuring three pointers from
Mamadou Sakho and
Danny Fusco. The run was enough to make the score 49-42 with 15 minutes to play.
The Beavers responded with a layup, but Lukac, Gabbidon and Franks each scored to put Hunter within three points. With five minutes to play Fusco took the ball to the basket, scoring a layup to tie the game, 61-61. The comeback would stop there as CCNY scored six-straight baskets and pulled out the win, 74-65.
Lukac recorded his first double-double of the season with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Franks followed with 15 points. The team finished the game with a 42.6 field goal percentage.
Hunter returns to action on Monday, Dec. 12 when they travel to St. Joseph's Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
