BOX SCORE New York, NY – The Hunter men's volleyball team earned a win at home yesterday evening against Lehman College, increasing their win streak to six games and advancing their perfect CUNYAC record out to 11-0 this season while their overall mark moves to 17-6. Hunter picked up the three-game sweep by scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-11.
Leading the Hawks in both kills and blocks was
Steven Tarquinio with 11 and six respectively.
Blake Hogan and Benjamin Crusinberry also made a strong contribution on the offensive end of the court combining for 14 kills. Setter
Nicolas Sanchez was able to continuously find his teammates on the net for 23 total assists while also tallying eight digs and a pair of aces.
Hunter dominated the court both offensively and defensively totaling 10 blocks to Lehman's one and executing 37 kills to the Lightning's 15. The Hawks' strong offense brought their hitting percentage to .400 outshining their counterpart's -.093.
The first set score stayed neck and neck until Hunter went on a five point run sparked by a
Steven Tarquinio kill for a 9-3 edge. Later on, four unanswered points set the Hawks at an even greater lead, 15-6. The closest Lehman would get to catch the Purple and Gold was a seven point deficit at 16-9 before the Hawks ended the set on a three-point run.
Hunter opened the second set with back to back kills for a quick 2-0 lead. Lehman answered with one kill, which was then followed by four uninterrupted Hawk points bringing the score to 6-1. The early lead carried Hunter through as they kept control for the remainder of the set. The Hawks ended the second set over Lehman with four straight points.
The Purple and Gold opened the third and final set with a 4 point run, later followed by a 3 point run and an additional 4 point run as they capitalized on the errors of their opponent. The Hawks held the lead for the entire set. A kill from
Steven Tarquinio would end the final set on a strong note at 25-11.
With a quick turnaround, the Hawks hit the road today for 7PM contest at #12 Vassar College in a nonconference matchup in Poughkeepsie, NY.
