The Hawks got off to a sluggish start, falling behind early, 5-2. Two kills from Crusinberry and a kill from
Benjamin Cassidy made it a 6-6 affair but once again they found themselves down 14-12. Four straight Hunter points, coupled with three ensuing Rampao miscues resulted in a 7-0 run and a 19-14 advantage in favor of the hosts. A kill from Tarquinio made it a point game, but Ramapo did not go away quietly, scoring two more points before taking a timeout. Out of the break, Sanchez's kill secured the first set victory.
In similar fashion, the second set was tightly contested throughout. However, after holding a 10-9 lead, Ramapo capitalized on three Hunter miscues while chalking up five points of their own to put in an 8-1 run and setting the scoreboard at 16-11. Unfazed by the five point deficit, Hunter played their game and strung together a 5-1 run of their own late in the set to take a 21-20 lead. With the score knotted at 23 apiece, Tarquinio and Cassidy hammered home a kill each to give their team a 2-0 lead.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead and used a 9-1 run midway through the fourth to give them a comfortable eight point advantage at 17-9. Despite scoring the next 11 of 16 points to come back to within three at 23-20, the visitors managed to steal the set with a final score of 25-21.
With their sights set on their 13
th victory, the Purple and Gold used a 5-1 run in the latter stages of the fifth and final set to take a 21-15 lead. Their final four points were tallied off of Ramapo errors as they claimed the set and match victory, 25-19.
