Men's Volleyball to Face John Jay in CUNYAC Semifinals

Hawks Take on Bloodhounds on Friday

The Hawks look to defeat John Jay in the semifinals of the CUNYAC tournament on Friday.
New York, NY - The #2 seeded Hawks are set to take on the #3 seeded John Jay College Bloodhounds on Friday, April 8 at 4 pm in the Pepsi/CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championships. Both semifinal games will be played at Baruch College with the final to be contested at 8pm later that evening.

Hunter looks to continue their dominant season holding a 22-9 overall record, 15-1 conference mark, and winning 11 of their last 14 games. The Hawks defeated Brooklyn College in convincing fashion when they routed the Bulldogs with a score of 3-0 in their Tuesday night quarterfinal victory. Hunter overwhelmed their opponents in the three set sweep as they posted 44 kills, 11 service aces, 43 assists, and recorded just five errors.

Nicolas Sanchez willed his team to victory after dishing out an impressive 37 assists. Behind stellar offensive performances from Ben Crusinberry, Benjamin Cassidy, and Blake Hogan the Hawks are determined to continue their balanced game plan into the latter stages of postseason play.

John Jay College will be Hunter's first hurdle this Friday evening after they swept the Lightning of Lehman College in the quarterfinals with a score of 3-0. The Purple and Gold must fend off the talented senior duo of Nicholas Anderson and Jack Pelleschi. Anderson is the leading assist man in the conference, coming in with a season-high of 755 assists while Pelleschi's 401 kills ranks second in the CUNYAC. The Hawks and the Bloodhounds have faced off twice before this regular season, both resulting in a Hunter 3-0 sweep.

Should the Hawks advance past the semifinals, they will meet the winner of #4 York College versus #1 Baruch at 8PM. The Purple and Gold defeated York in both regular season matches with a score of 3-0. Baruch and Hunter have split their season series 1-1 with the Hawks defeating Baruch in their early season match 3-2, but falling in the final regular season game in March, losing 3-2 which proved to be their only conference loss.
