BOX SCORE New York, NY - In a game featuring several minutes of downpour and an eventual storm, Hunter College men's soccer managed to come away with a 2-0 win over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Wednesday evening.
The game was cut short due to thunder, but Hunter's 2-0 decision will stand because 70 minutes of regulation was played.Â
The Hawks struck early, notching a goal just ten minutes into the game as
Brandon Fiscina crossed the ball from the right side of the field, allowing
Bryan Suertegaray to find the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Purple and Gold followed that up by scoring again ten minutes later when
Jesus Patino Muniz took a shot from the top of the box that sailed past the goalkeeper. Aristofanis Iaonnidis was credited with the assist.
The Hawks went into halftime with the 2-0 lead and started the second half just as the rain began. The teams played 20 minutes before thunder was heard, forcing the officials to call the game as Hunter earned the 2-0 win.
Muniz led the team with four shots, while Suertegaray and
Daniel Kisel each followed with two. Ioannidis,
Mostafa Mosbah,
Carlos Aspiazu,
Brandon Fiscinaa,
Nico Sirena and
Chris Morales all added to Hunter's shot total of 14.Â
Hawk goalkeeper Paul Tenfoung recorded four saves for the Purple and Gold.
The team returns to action on Saturday, September 17 when they open conference play with a 10am game against John Jay College.Â
