BOX SCORE 2 Union, NJ - Hunter College men's volleyball went 1-1 at a tri-match tournament hosted by Kean University on Saturday, earning a win against #14 Rivier University before falling to #7 Nazareth College.
The Hawks are now 4-2 this season and have yet to begin CUNYAC play. Hunter's
Ben Crusinberry was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Clash Tournament.
Hunter 3, Rivier 0
The Hawks handled Rivier in three sets with close scores of 26-24, 25-21 and 25-23 to sweep the Raiders. Crusinberry highlighted the match with 18 kills and a .419 hitting percentage, while also recording a team-high 17 digs in the victory.
Nicolas Sanchez tallied 41 assists and
Steven Tarquinio added four blocks and eight kills.
The Hawks hit .320 on the match, while holding Rivier to just a .196 hitting percentage.
Nazareth 3, Hunter 2
The Hawks took the first two sets of the match against Nazareth (25-18 and 25-21), but the Golden Flyers made a comeback edging out the Purple and Gold 25-23 in the third set, dominating the fourth with a score of 25-15 and taking the fifth 15-12.
Crusinberry continued to lead Hunter with 22 kills, while Tarquinio followed with 10 kills and a team high six blocks. Sanchez recorded 44 assists in the match to tie a season-high this year, while
Joseph Muir led the squad with 14 digs.
The Hawks hit .209 in the loss while the Golden Flyers recorded a .229 hitting percentage.
The team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host their second Tri-Match of the season against St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn and Arcadia University.
