Ewing, NJ - Hunter College went 0-3 at the NEWA Metro Duals on Saturday, getting several successful individual performances at the meet, hosted by The College of New Jersey.
The Hawks fell to Bridgewater State with a score of 35-14 before getting a loss to Roger Williams (46-6) and ended the day by dropping a 36-16 match to Williams.
Nick Brutus was a highlight of the day for the Purple and Gold, sweeping his opponents in three matches at 174.
"We asked everyone to compete and they did just that," said head coach
Carlos Dolmo. "We picked up some great individual wins in the process which will help us build confidence and momentum moving forward."
Bridgewater 35, Hunter 14
John Sherlock started the Hawks off with a win, defeating his opponent by major decision and a score of 11-0 at 149. Brutus added to the team score with a 10-0 major decision over his Bridgewater State opponent Declan Heaslip.
Roger Williams 46, Hunter 6
Hunter got a victory at 157 as Liam Heine defeated his opponent with a decision of 8-3 for three points. Brutus recorded his second individual win of the day with a 5-1 win as the Purple and Gold fell to the Roger Williams.
Williams 36, Hunter 16
The Hawks completed the day with four Hawks getting individual victories in the match against Williams. Eliot Natanov started it off with a win by forfeit at 141 before Sherlock earned a 8-3 decision to go 2-1 on the day. Heine tallied his second win on Saturday with a 5-2 decision over Williams' Corachano. Brutus finished it off for the Hawks with a major decision of 9-0 at 174, sweeping his matches for the day.
Hunter returns to action on February 11 when they travel to a Tri-Match, hosted by SUNY Cortland.
