Wrestling Goes 2-1 In Season Opener at NY / PA Duals

Brutus and Miller Go 3-0

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Hunter College wrestling opened the 2017-18 campaign with two team wins at the NY / PA Duals, hosted at Wilkes College on Saturday.

The Hawks secured victories over Penn College (36-18) and Kings College (34-24) before falling to Wilkes College (38-6) at the end of the day. With the wins, the team matches their win total from the entire 2016-17 season in just the first competition.

Nick Brutus and Sean Miller led the Hawks on the day, each going undefeated in the three match ups. Brutus started the day with a win by fall against his Penn opponent, before getting a tech fall victory against King's with a score of 16-1. He finished it off with a 7-2 decision victory to Wilkes at the 174 weight class.

Miller started off his career at Hunter by winning by forfeit versus Penn, taking the match against King's by fall and getting a 7-5 decision against Wilkes.

William Heine had a solid day for the Hawks, winning his matches against opponents from Penn and King's at 165. Ronald Rodriguez also posted two victories at 149, getting wins over Penn and King's.

"I felt we had a good sense of urgency and fire to go compete our first time out," said first-year head coach MarcAntoni Macias. "Last year we went 1-3 at this dual tournament and this year 2-1. We have already matched last years win record so the rest of the year looks great."

The squad returns to action on December 1st when they host Keystone College at 3:30 p.m. at the Hunter Sportsplex.
