Men's Volleyball Takes Match Against Ramapo in Three Sets

Michael Jazgarski Leads Team With 10 Kills

BOX SCORE Mahwah, NJ - Hunter College men's volleyball won their fifth-straight match on Wednesday night, defeating Ramapo College in three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-20.

The Hawks are now 10-2 overall and begin conference play on Monday.

Hunter took the early lead in the first set, jumping out to an 11-6 lead. From there the Hawks went on a run, finding kills from Ben Crusinberry, Steven Tarquinio, Michael Jazgarski and Matthew Zukowski to make the score 19-12.

Things looked good for the Hawks as they led 24-19, but the Roadrunners managed to make a comeback, scoring three-straight to trail by just two points. A Ramapo service error eventually gave Hunter the first set, 25-22.

The Roadrunners started the second set strong, leading for most of the game until a kill from Zukowski would spark at Hunter run. The Purple and Gold outscored the Roadrunners 10-1 to take a 20-13 lead. The gap was too big to close for Ramapo as the Hawks took the second, 25-19.

The third set featured several tied scores and five lead changes as both teams struggled to maintain control of the game. With the score tied at 11, Tarquinio recorded two-straight kills for the Hawks to give them a two-point lead. Ramapo stayed close for the rest of the set but were unable to catch up as Hunter took the third, 25-20 to get the 3-0 victory.

Jazgarski led the squad with ten kills, committing just two errors for a .533 hitting percentage. He was followed by Tarquinio's nine kills and .750 hitting percentage, while Crusiberry added seven and Zukowski tallied six in the match. Nicolas Sanchez led the team with 35 assists and Joseph Muir notched a match-high 14 digs.

The Hawks hit .368 in the match, while holding the Roadrunners to just a .208 hitting percentage.

The squad returns to action on Monday, Feb. 20 when they host their first CUNYAC Tri-Match of the season against CCNY and York College.
