BOX SCORE Bronx, NY - Hunter College men's volleyball finished CUNYAC play last night with a four set defeat of Lehman College to capture the regular season conference championship for the first time since 2012.
The Hawks took the first set against the Lightning with a score of 25-16. The Lightning responded by starting the second set with a 5-1 run, holding on to the lead for the rest of the set to get a 25-19 win and tie the match 1-1.
The Purple and Gold started the third strong with kills from
Brandon Kohler,
Steven Tarquinio and
Benjamin Cassidy to make the score 8-4. Lehman stayed close until Tarquinio sparked a 6-1 run for the Hawks to end the set with a 25-17 victory.
The fourth featured a close set as Lehman came back from a nine-point deficit to trail by just one point with a score of 21-20. The Hawks managed to hold off the Lightning will kills from Kohler and Cassidy to win 25-22 and secure the 3-1 victory.
Cassidy led the team with 19 kills, while Kohler and Tarquinio followed with 11 each.
Nicolas Sanchez recorded 47 assists in the victory and led the team on defense with 16 digs.Â
Joseph Muir tallied 14 digs and
Matthew Zukowski added 12.Â
The team returns to action this weekend when they take on Vassar College and Alvernia University in a Tri-Match Tournament on Saturday.
