New York, NY - The wrestling team secured their first win of the season in their home opener after defeating the Generals of SUNY Sullivan by a score of 36-19. The Hawks won six of the 10 weight classes en route to the first Homecoming victory of the evening.
At 133 pounds,
Andrew Cota defeated his opponent, Pedro Rosales, pinning him at the 1:18 mark to earn six points toward the team scoring. Meanwhile,
Elliot Natanov at 141 lbs, pinned Zach Rosenthal at 1:00 in the first period. Next up at the 149 pound weight class, was
Jordan Gonzalez. The senior earned a pin over Jeremy Jenkins in the third period to set the score in favor of the Purple and Gold, 18-4.
Michael McCabe pinned his 165 pound opponent, Anas Samir in the first while teammate
Mentor Gjonbalaj did the same at 174 pounds.
Serjey Thomas and Bryce Moore each won their respective weight classes, 197 and 285 by forefits, capping the victory.
Up next, the Hawks will have one day off before competing in the Bob Quade Open hosted by Centenary at 10am on Sunday, December 8.
