Williamsport, PA – The wrestling team competed in the Mid-Winter Classic over the weekend hosted by Penn College. The Hawks were unable to come away with a win, falling to each of their four opponents.
vs. Muhlenberg (Lose 36-14)
The Hawks won four weight classes against Muhlenberg.
Paul Wehr at 133 pounds won in an 11-2 major decision over Matthew Ferrante to put Hunter on the board first.
Nick Karamoshos defeated Michael Ruane in an 11-9 overtime thriller at 144 pounds while
Alexander Michelman, wrestling at 157 pounds had a similar outcome, defeating Yonbue Goodall Tanco in overtime, 4-2. However, the only other weight class they were able to win was the heavyweight with
Jacob Radboy earning a major decision over Sam Rothstein, 16-6.
vs. Gettysburg (Lose 30-27)
The Hawks came close but fell just shy to Gettysburg despite splitting the 10 weight classes evenly. Wehr (125),
Andrew Cota (133),
Jordan Gonzalez (149) and
Serjey Thomas (184) all beat their respective opponents by a pin while
Leon Taryan (285) took a 13-6 decision over Paul Pelham. Despite the wins, Hunter came up three points short of the victory.
vs. Johns Hopkins (Lose 39-17)
Cota (133) came away with a victory over Kareem Chambers via 15-0 tech fall while Karamoshos (141) pinned Hanting Wong at 2:56. The Purple and Gold's final bout win was awarded to Radboy (285) by way of a forfeit.
vs. McDaniel College (Lose 34-24)
In the final round of the day, Cota (133) got the Hawks on the board first after pinning his opponent, Steve Pabon with a fall at 2:20.
Jordan Gonzalez (149) and
Michael McCabe (157) each pinned their respective opponents. Radboy (285) closed his impressive day by pinning Chris Hauffman at 4:25.
Hunter returns to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host a tri-match featuring Western New England University and Williams College. The first wrestle of the day will begin at noon.
