Alumni Spotlight with John Tush

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Tush is one of the most prolific wrestlers to ever dawn the gold and purple. Posting a career record of 57-21-1, he only saw a single loss during his senior year campaign The 1985 graduate was a Metropolitan Conference place winner, two-time NCAA East Regional place winner and placed in every tournament that he wrestled while at Hunter. In 1984, he qualified and participated in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. We had time to catch up with him HERE:

What have you been up to post Hunter?

"I was a Freestyle National Wrestling Champion and a Veterans Bronze & Gold medalist. I was Inducted into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Lifetime Service) as well as the Hunter College Athletic Hall of Fame. For work, I am the VP of Sales for a Major Medical Device Company and coach to numerous All-American Wrestlers at all levels"

Glad to see you staying very involved in the wrestling world! What was your favorite memory in a Hawks uniform?

"Our Team beating LIU Post (then CW POST) a Div. II power in our dual meet and looking at Coach Gaundenzi's reaction."

Possibly one of the best wins in the program's storied history! Now, what was your favorite memory of your time at Hunter College?

"Subway rides back to the dorm on 25th St. with teammates. The way I was accepted by teammates when transferring from East Stroudsburg University."

Sometimes off the mat activities trump all. Who was the staff member or coach who influenced you the most and how did they achieve that influence?

"Bob Gaudenzi, always on my side and there for me through thick and thin."

Has participation in sports at Hunter prepared you for your current life/career?

"You don't always get what you want or even need, so embrace the grind."

Any advice to the Hawks that are on their way to graduation?

"Train" harder than you thought you could, always move forward no matter what you doing."
