New York, NY - The men's volleyball team has been crowned regular season champions and have now secured the #1 seed in the conference tournament. After a first round bye, the Hawks will begin their quest for a league title on Thursday, April 5 in the semi-final.
The Hawks closed out the final game of the regular season against York College in a match where the Cardinals had to forfeit. The win pushed the Hawks league record to 11-1. With Baruch also boasting a CUNYAC record of 11-1, the tie-breaking rules went into effect. The two teams went 1-1 against each other during the year which meant the decision came down to who allowed less points in the head-to-head matches. Hunter allowed 182 points against Baruch while the Bearcats allowed 188, therefore resulting in the top spot being awarded to the Hawks.
CCNYÂ edged John Jay for the #3 spot in a tie breaker while Brooklyn and Lehman round out the participating six schools, respectively.
Tuesday, April 5 will be the first round games that feature #3 CCNY vs. #6 Lehman while #4 John Jay will take on #5 Brooklyn. The winner of #3/#6 will advance to face #2 Baruch on Thursday, April 7 while the #4/#5 winner will see #1 Hunter. The championship game will be hosted by Baruch College on Friday, March 8.
