BOX SCORE New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team opened up its season at home against Arcadia in a five-set battle in which the Hawks emerged victorious over Arcadia (1-1).
The visitors took the first two sets at 25-21 and 25-22, as the Hawks went down 2-0. As the third set opened up with Arcadia taking the first point, the Hawks went on an 8-2 run to take the lead, which the Purple and Gold compounded to 21-11 lead. Despite a late run by Arcadia, Hunter managed to take the third set, 25-18 to force a fourth. The Hawks managed to take the fourth set again at 25-18 to push for a winner take all fifth set.
Set five saw Hunter take the first two points of the frame, but the Knights won the next three points to take the lead. Hunter then took the next four points, taking a 7-3 lead. Arcadia got within two points in the set, but that's the closest they got as Hunter took the set and the match at 15-9.
Muhammad Al-Amine Mbaye led the Hawks with 19 kills for .361%. Cooper Moran added 48 assists as he paced the offense, while Annes Deljanin logged five blocks to lead the Hawks' defense. He also recorded 10 kills with a remarkable .667 hitting percentage. Jimmy Chang recorded a trio of aces in the match, while Sergio Aguado led the team with 13 digs followed by Moran's 10.
The Hawks return to the court on Feb. 1 as they host New York University for a 6:00 p.m. start.
