New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's indoor track and field team placed second at the CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet this weekend at the Armory with a team total of 137 points.
The Hawks were edged out by Medgar Evers, capturing its first title since 2004 with 166 points. Lehman placed third with 71 points, followed by York and CCNY.
Daria Niebrzydowski grabbed Hunter's sole individual title for the meet, placing first in the high jump with a mark of 1.50. Rubilyn Navarro also placed in the high jump, at third with a mark of 1.35m. Niebrzydowski earned a silver medal in triple jump with her mark of 9.67m, while Navarro earned another second place finish in the long jump (4.56m), trailed by Becky Li with a mark of 4.48m to round out the Hawks' podium finishes in jumps.
Also in the field, Karina Tan earned a second place mark in the weight throw at 34' 6.25".
Hunter's Distance Medley Relay was the team's only top finish on the track as Samantha Suriel, Ashley Taylor, Irving Jiang, Wendy Montiel finished with a combined time of 4:56.45. The squad's 4x400m Relay team also medaled where Suriel, Taylor, Isabella Moseley, and Jiang teamed up to clock in at 4:56.45.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Becky Li clocked in at 11.7 for second place while Lily McAndrews grabbed a second place titled of her own in the 800 meters (2:42.48). Rounding out top finishers of the meet for Hunter was Touka Medjoubi and Montiel in the 3000 meters taking second and third with respective times of 12:33.23 and 12:48.32.
Hunter continues its season on March 2 for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Indoor Championships.
