Hawks Impress at Spartan Invitational

Staten Island, N.Y.-  The Hunter College women's indoor track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Competing against a stacked field of athletes across all divisions, the Hawks turned in several standout performances and top marks within the conference.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Jamie Risso placed 28th overall with a time of 10.58, ranking third in the CUNYAC, while teammate Tahlea Murray clocked 11.58 for 35th overall and fifth in the conference. Alyssa Abrahams ran 8.90 to finish 69th overall, placing 11th in the conference, while Murray followed with a time of 9.01 (72nd overall, 12th in conference), and Erin Hyman rounded out the group with a time of 9.98 (88th overall, 17th in conference). In the mile, Samantha Suriel led the Hawks with a 6:06.98 finish, placing 34th overall and third in the conference. She was followed by Emma Kilroy, who posted a time of 6:23.38 to rank 37th overall and fourth in the conference.In the 800-meter run, Mikaelle Cesar delivered a standout performance, finishing 20th overall with a time of 2:34.13 to claim the top spot in the CUNYAC rankings. Rawnaa Elshita finished 44th with a time of 3:33.48, ranking 10th in the conference.The Hawks were well-represented in the 200-meter dash, where Risso's 27.71 effort earned her 27th overall and second in the conference. Becky Li finished in 29.04 (58th overall, fourth in conference), followed by Abrahams (30.47, 69th overall, seventh in conference), Salma El Bezzaoui (32.14, 78th overall, eighth in conference), and Hyman (35.52, 84th overall, 15th in conference).The distance medley relay team of Irving Jiang, Salma El Bezzaoui, Gabriela Miranda, and Melanie Liu posted a time of 16:02 to finish 12th overall and second in the conference.

The Hawks continued their dominance in the field events. In the shot put, Murray threw 9.52 meters to finish 24th overall and third in the conference. She was joined by Elshita, whose throw of 6.80 meters earned her 49th overall and ninth in the conference.In the weight throw, Elshita recorded a mark of 7.13 meters to place 51st overall and fourth in the conference.Hunter excelled in the jumps, with Risso leading the way in the long jump with a leap of 4.99 meters to claim 12th overall and first in the conference. Li followed with a mark of 4.63 meters (25th overall, third in conference), while Murray placed 40th with a jump of 4.29 meters (fifth in conference). Risso also took first in the triple jump with an impressive 10.69-meter performance, while Murray's 10.13-meter effort earned her 20th overall and second in the conference.

The Hawks return to the track on Jan. 17 at the Ramapo College Season Opener held at the Armory.
