East Stroudsburg, Pa.- The Hunter College women's indoor track and field team delivered a strong performance at the DeSchriver Invitational this weekend, competing against teams from all three NCAA divisions at East Stroudsburg University.
The highlight of the meet came from the Hawks' 4x200-meter relay team of Becky Li, Thais Beckford, Rubilyn Navarro, and Salma El Bezzaoui, who qualified for the AARTFC Indoor Regionals with a time of 2:02.71.
Hunter also impressed in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, as Emma Kilroy, Mikaelle Cesar, Irving Jiang, and Samantha Suriel combined for a third-place finish in 15:02.08.
Jamie Risso led the Hawks in the 55-meter hurdles, taking first place with a time of 9.53 seconds. Navarro followed in third at 10.43, while Tahlea Murray placed fourth in 11.07. Risso also claimed third in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 27.59.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Melanie Liu posted the fourth-fastest time in the conference this season, finishing in 2:49.46.
The Hawks also saw success in the field events, securing multiple top-five finishes. Risso continued her standout day with a first-place mark of 11.45 meters in the triple jump, while Murray took fourth at 10.24 meters and Li placed fifth at 9.65 meters. Risso added a second-place finish in the long jump (5.46m), while Navarro tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.38 meters.
Hunter returns to competition on Feb. 8 at the Big Apple Invitational.
