KINGS POINT, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team took home three victories, including one sweep, at the Mariner Duals over the weekend. The Hawks defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 50-4, followed by New England College, 37-18, before blanking Plymouth State, 54-0. Hunter continued to show its growing potential, as all but one wrestler in the lineup was a freshman or sophomore, signaling promising depth for the future.
Botensky Bauzile delivered a dominant performance at 133 lbs, going 3-0 on the day with two first-period falls. Jayden Medina was equally impressive at 149 lbs, finishing 2-0 with two technical falls while totaling 38 points without surrendering a single point to his opponents.
In the 285 lbs weight class, Hayden Roy posted a 2-0 record, earning a hard-fought 2-1 decision over Takuma Steinberger of Maine Maritime before securing a pin against Jonathan Ruiz of Plymouth State. Muhamadu Konteh also went undefeated at 125 lbs, finishing 3-0 highlighted by a fall over Hayden Durocher of Plymouth State. Alimkhan Guseinov continued his strong form at 197 lbs, going 3-0 with two falls on the day.
Hunter also received key contributions throughout the lineup, as Anthony Coccarelli recorded two wins at 157 lbs, Jack Kent picked up three victories at 165 lbs, and Jordan Fisher added two wins at 174 lbs. Naseer Johnson capped off the Hawks' strong showing at 184 lbs with two bonus-point victories, earning an 18-7 major decision over Josiah Funches of Plymouth State and an 18-3 technical fall against Trevion Atallah of NEC.
Hunter returns to the mat on Jan. 17 for the New York vs Pennsylvania Duals in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
