ITHACA, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team competed in the first day of the NCAA Regional on Friday afternoon, with
Botensky Bauzile advancing to day two.
Junior
Botensky Bauzile (133 lbs) avenged a loss from earlier in his career in the Blood Round to advance to Day 2 and lock in All-Region honors for the second year in a row. He is guaranteed a top-8 finish and can place as high as 3rd, which would qualify him for nationals.
At 149 lbs,
Jayden Medina won two matches en route to the Blood Round before falling in OT to Zach Vera of NJCU. Freshman Nasser Johnson (184 lbs) also had a memorable day, earning an 8-2 decision victory over Mariano Monacelli (Keystone).
Bauzile will return to the mat for the second day of the NCAA Regional tournament hosted by Ithaca.
