Women's Outdoor Track Wins Sixth Straight CUNYAC Championship

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's outdoor track and field team captured its sixth straight City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title this weekend at Ichan Stadium.

The Hawks totaled 223 team points, finishing ahead of Medgar Evers with 19. CCNY placed third with 101 total points, followed by Lehman with 53 in fourth place, and York with two in fifth.

Hunter recorded four individual event victories and one relay title, while sweeping the podium in three distance events to pace a dominant performance, led by Shannon Ferri who captured two individual titles.

The Hawks showcased their strength in the middle-distance events, beginning with a podium sweep in the 800m. Mikaelle Cesar took home gold in 2:30.66, followed by Ferri in second at 2:32.83 and Leila Nouri in third at 2:44.19.

Hunter continued its dominance in the 1500m, as Ferri claimed gold with a time of 5:07.85. Cesar placed second in 5:16.12, while Nouri secured third in 5:41.0.

In the 5000m, Ferri earned her second individual title of the meet, crossing the tape in 19:40.19. Nouri placed second at 22:05.97, followed by Emma Kilroy in third at 22:45.37, completing another podium sweep for the Hawks.

Hunter's 4x400m relay team of Orianna Blackman, Alicia Clarke, Cesar, and Rachelle Griffith secured a first-place finish with a combined time of 4:21.92.

Clarke added to the Hawks' point total on the track, placing second in the 100m dash in 12.97 and third in the 200m dash in 26.95. Griffith also recorded a third-place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:03.81 and added a second-place finish in the 400H at 1:10.57.

In longer distance events, Kilroy placed second in the 10,000m at 46:30.09, followed by Amanda Rivera in third at 46:49.35. Melanie Liu added a second-place finish in the 3000 steeplechase in 14:24.29, with Ewa Ozgastasiewicz finishing third at 14:30.73.

Tiara Smith earned a third-place finish in the 100H with a time of 18.3. The 4x100m relay team of Thais Beckford, Blackman, Clarke, and Smith placed third overall with a time of 52.91.

In the field events, Taelyn Murray led the way with a first-place finish in the discus at 34.04m, while also placing second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.17m and third in the shot put at 9.81m. Rubilyn Navarro added a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.36m, while Clarke placed third in the long jump at 4.79m. Nouri rounded out the field performances with a third-place finish in the javelin at 22.49m.
