Purchase, NY – The Hunter men's tennis team suffered just their third loss of the season with a 9-0 shutout against Manhattanville College of the Freedom Conference in a non-conference match Thursday evening at the Manhattanville Tennis Complex in Purchase, NY.
However, despite not winning a game, the Hawks did not go down without a fight as three matches went to a tiebreaker including third doubles. At third singles, freshman
Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) battled to a tiebreaker in each set, 7-6 (6-2), 7-6 (6-0), while freshman
Gemstonn Alegre (Hollis, NY/Martin Van Buren) forced a third set and then went to a tiebreaker in his match at sixth singles 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). Then
Alegre and sophomore
Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) went to a tiebreaker in third doubles, falling 9-8 (7-6).
Hunter, who falls to 5-3 overall, is back in action on Friday, when they host Merchant Marine for a 6:00 p.m. match at the USTA Center in Flushing, NY.
