Hawks Clinch No. 2 Seed in CUNYAC Championship With 5-2 Win Over Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Hunter College men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Albertus Magnus. on Thursday morning, clinching the No. 2 seed in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship.

With the win, the Hawks carry momentum into postseason play and will host No. 3 seed Brooklyn College on Sunday in the semifinal round.

Hunter took control early by winning two of three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Nicholas Cooper and Alexander Hagiu earned a 6-1 victory, while Odin Dibra and Savio Francis followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2.

In singles play, the Hawks won four of six matches to seal the team victory. Hagiu delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Dibra battled through a three-set match at No. 3 to earn a key point. Francis added another win at No. 4 with a straight-set performance, and Nicholas Douglas closed out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

Despite dropping matches at the top and middle of the lineup, Hunter's depth once again proved to be the difference as the Hawks secured the win.

Hunter now turns its focus to the CUNYAC Championship, where it will host No. 3 Brooklyn College in the semifinals on Sunday.
